Two-Piece Clay Tile Roofing
Dimensions- (in inches)
1.-Leveling:
The surface must be leveled and clean.
2. Waterproofing:
Use 1 ply of black felt paper (#30) to cover the entire roof surface
3.-Measure and mark:
Mark and nail the horizontal battens (2x4) with 8” clearance between each batten. Allow 4” from each edge for rake application.
Nail Size
Use a nail size 8” stainless, this nail will last indefinitely and will not streak the tile from rust. Do not set the nail all the way down as contact with the tile can cause breakage or fracture of the tile.
4.Installation:
A) The first horizontal line (left to right) should be marked at 15” from the eave. This line marks the butt end of the tile for the first course giving a 1.5” overhang. The rest of the courses should be marked to allow 13” exposure with overlap.
B) Mark a vertical line (Top to Bottom) at 4” from both edges. These margins will allow for the installation of the rakes. (Recommended installation is from left to right.)
Recommendations:
1. Install tile with narrow end facing up and wide end facing bottom.
2. Start the installation of the tile from bottom to top and from left to right.
Roof's pitch: Minimum 3:12, Maximum 12:12
5.Hip and ridge installation
A) Use a 2x4” Nailer at hip and ridge to nail cover tile.
B)Fill opening between field tile, and covers with matching color marker.
